Polyacrylate (ACM) O-Rings Material Description

Polyacrylate (ACM) o-rings are copolymers of ethyl or butyl acrylate with a combination of chlorine, acid, amide or epoxy compounds. Optimal environments include engines and transmissions with good resistance to petroleum fuels and oils, automatic transmission fluid, type A power steering fluid. Good resistance to mineral oil, sunlight, oxygen, and ozone.

Polyacrylate (ACM) Advantages:
  • Petroleum fuels and oils resistance
  • Automatic transmission fluid resistance

Optimal environments: Engines and transmissions.

Polyacrylate (ACM) Disadvantages:

Cannot be used in:

  • Alcohol, alkalis, glycol based brake fluids, EP fluids, chlorinated hydrocarbons, gear oils, glycol based brake fluids, hydrocarbons, water or steam (above 275°F), acids and amines.
  • Typical formulations only good to -5° F

Lower water compatibility, cold flexibility, strength, and compression set resistance than nitrile.

Heat Resistance: Up to 300°F (149°C) with shorter life @ 325°F (163°C)

Cold Flexibility: Depending on individual compound, between -20°F and -40°F (-29°C and -40°C).

Temperature ranges will apply to the majority of media for which the material is potentially recommended. With some media however, the service temperature range may be significantly different. ALWAYS TEST UNDER ACUTAL SERVICE CONDITIONS.

ESP’s shelf life recommendation is based on the AS5316 standard and intended to be utilized by those organizations who do not already have specific recommendations for the control of elastomeric seals. It should be noted that the packaging of the elastomeric seals prior to assembly into a product is an integral part of the controlled storage procedure. It provides a positive means of product identity from the time of manufacture to the time of assembly.
